Ecological structure

It ensures the ecological operation of the biophysical matrix (the city's physical-biological environment) and enables its adaptation to the effects of climate change, while improving resilience. The PDU aims to conserve the elements that guarantee the natural water cycle and natural coastal areas.

Ecological structure
To ensure the correct ecological operation of this biophysical matrix, the PDU sets as a priority the objective of conserving the elements that guarantee the natural water cycle and natural coastal areas.

These elements (blue structure) define the main ecological water system, made up of the main surface bodies of water, the water channels and the coast, in addition to aquifer recharge zones, areas of special interest for the regulation and lamination of surface run-off, marshes, the wetlands of the coast and the rivers and, finally, the beaches. They guarantee the operation of the natural and productive cycles of the territory related to water and they also enable the control of risks arising from the effects of climate change, such as flooded rivers and coastal erosion.

The PDU will determine and regulate the protection of areas related to the natural water cycle in open spaces on non-developable land and will set the guidelines for the use of subsoil in urban areas.
